Original Sample : Apache

While Listening to the Sugarhill Gang Lp "8th Wonder", I noticed that it's full of sample. Sampling didn't really start in the 90's. Track Apache Refers to a classic track by The Shadows, in 1960. In 1973 The Incredible Bongo Band covered the track in a a true hip hop song back in the days. Finally, The Sugarhill Gang version came out in 1981. 2 decades for one song, I let you Judge of Those 2 versions, a preference for the original for me, Enjoy!

Everyday people

I just Saw Harvey Milk tonight. As usual while watching a movie, I am always receptive when Funk, particularly when it delivers a message, and Disco appear. Obviously , the scene takes place in the 70's . By the way, Mr Sean Penn deserves his Oscar thousand times.

I've never been there, but I trying to figure out why all Parisian People are attracted by San Francisco. I guess, This city has what we people like, Style.

And a little something of freedom and tolerance. So this was no surprise that SF saw the birth of a multi ethnic Band like Sly and The Family Stone. Much to say on this band, but they've just revolutioned the Rock and the Funk. So we listen now to one of the barest title of the funk. A voice, 3chords of piano ... and it works. track sampled by:
  • Arrested Development - People Everyday (Vid) Don't miss it!
  • Aretha Franklin - Everyday People (Vid)
  • Joan Jett - Everyday People (Vid)
  • and the advertising of the Smarties :)

We've got to Live together. I and everyday people. Enjoy!

Everybody Dance (Clap Your Hands)

Sometimes, I lose myself diggin' some Obscure 70's Polish Disco (Coming soon) but after all, I always come back to the basics. And in Disco, they are called CHIC. I want to (z)share with you a title, often forgotten, but absolutely efficient on the dance floor. The perfect combination of the guitar and the bass, The Duo Rogers/Edwards at his best, Everybody Dance! They Recorded the track in 1977, for Atlantic Records.

In 1979, The players Association covered the title with a brilliant interpretation, much more brass instrument, only instrumental. It was not the first time they covered a hit, like they did for the Love Hangover of Diana Ross.

So now, your turn. Chic or Players Association? Enjoy!
